Doris "Doe" (Freeman) Douglas was born March 6, 1898 in Reno, Washoe Co., NV. She was the third of six children born to Andy and Marie (Nelson) Freeman. Her father immigrated to the US from Sweden in @1868 and worked for three decades as a respected engineer for the V & T Railroad. Her father was 30 years older than her mother and this was his second family. She grew up in what is now downtown Reno, attending Reno schools and St. Thomas Aquinas Church. In 1913 her father passed away and her oldest brother began working for the railroad and supporting the family before he was drafted for WWI in 1917. In Dec. 1917, her younger brother, Paul was killed when his bicycle was struck by a automobile. By 1920 her brother Andy was back living with his mother and sisters in Reno and working for the railroads. In 1920 before her marriage she was working as an office stenographer.
@1921 she married Charles "Doug" Douglas in Reno, NV. Doug worked as a steam railroad lineman for the Railroad and the family resided in Reno and northern California areas including Redding and Sacramento, CA. They had two daughters; one daughter, Marian because of mental health reasons lived with them until she died in 1967. In retirement they moved to Ashland, OR where they had a beautiful home and gardens. They eventually moved back to the Sacramento area to be near their daughter, Barbara and grandchildren. Doe passed away March 25, 1987 at the age of 89 years.
She was survived by husband, Doug Douglas; daughter, Barbara Cripe and grandchildren in Sacramento, CA.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Miss Marian Douglas in 1967; father, Andy Freeman in 1913; mother, Marie Freeman in 1929; brothers, Andy Freeman in 1966, Paul Freeman in 1917; half-brothers, Harry Freeman in 1943, Eddie Freeman in 1893; sisters, Hope Wilderspin in 1982, Aileen Mitchell in 1981 and Helen Freeman in 1913.
