Mary Amanda Parrish was the daughter of Josiah Douglas Cleveland and Lucy Bryan. She was born October 12, 1839 in Masonville, Delaware County, New York. Her occupation was that of teacher and housekeeper.

She married on July 4, 1860 at Niles, Michigan to James A. Parrish. She had one living child when she entered the Washington Veterans Home in 1915, a son Charles E. Parrish.

She died of cancer at the Washington Veterans Home on January 29, 1924 at the age of 84.
