A native of Laurel County, he was born Oct. 10, 1924, the son of Charlie Mooney and Belle Magee Mooney.
He was a retired principal from the Laurel County School System, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran and a member of McKee Masonic Lodge No. 144 F and AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
two brothers, Raymond Mooney and Randall Mooney;
and a sister, Dorothy Broughton.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Pennington Mooney, of London;
children, Charles Roland Mooney, of San Francisco, Calif., Sharon Kay Reed, Teresa Elaine House and Jeffrey Scott Mooney, all of London;
sister, Eulene Chillar, of Miami, Fla.;
grandchildren, Erin Phillips, Devin Whitehead, Haley Whitehead, Julian House, Jordan House, Roland B. Mooney and Kali Mooney;
great-grandson, Daeton Whitehead.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 17, 2009, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. L.J. Harrison and Pastor Trevor Barton officiating.
Burial will follow in A.R. Dyche Memorial Park, London.
Graveside honors will be conducted by the local DAV.
Pallbearers will be Julian House, Jordan House, Blaine Mooney, Devin Whitehead, Earl Wayne Morgan and Frankie Pennington.Honorary pallbearers will be Ova Combs, Roy Bowling, Rex Fredricks, Don Cole and Lawrence Kuhl.
