Mrs. Pauline Maurer, a long-time resident of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, in a nursing home in Burleson, Texas, at the age of 90 years and 8 months.

Pauline was born in Luckenbach, Texas, on Jan. 15, 1917, to Hill Country pioneer parents Otto and Sophie Segner Kunz. She married Clemens W. Maurer on June 27, 1938, and they lived all of their lives together in Kerrville and in Harper.

Mrs. Maurer was an active participant in church and civic affairs in Kerrville. As a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, she was instrumental in founding the women's Altar Society, which is still active today. She also previously was involved in starting the Altar Society at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harper, Texas. Her church involvement extended to the Diocesan level, where she served as an officer in various organizations through the years. She helped plan and open the first student cafeteria at Notre Dame School in the late 1950s, and worked as one of the cooks for most of the cafeteria's existence. In recognition of her devotion to her family and her involvement in parish affairs, she was named the Archdiocesan Mother of the Year in the late 1950s. She and Mr. Maurer were part of a team involved in introducing the Cursillo Movement to Notre Dame Parish in 1968. While serving as Eucharistic Minister, she was dedicated to visiting the ill and homebound. She was on staff of the first Kerrville community day care center for children of low-income families, and in election years was a frequent volunteer at local precincts and at voting centers.

She was known for her exquisite hand-made quilts, and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and fishing.

Pauline was preceded in death by Clemens Maurer, her beloved husband of 63 years. Three brothers, Ted, Edmund and Richard Kunz, and two sisters, Gertrude Jung and Elizabeth Kunz, as well as one grandchild and three great-grandchildren, also preceded her.

She is survived by four sons and three daughters and their spouses. Her sons are Charley Maurer and wife, Shirley, of Arlington, Texas, Norman Maurer and wife, Judy, of Kerrville, Texas, David Maurer and wife, Peggy, of Arpelar, Okla., and Stephen Maurer and wife, Donna, of Benson, Ariz. Her daughters are Delphine Exman of Fort Worth, Texas, Clarice Morse of Fort Worth, Texas, and Angela Thompson and husband, Larry Vavra of Georgetown, Texas.

She also is survived by two sisters, Rosalie Klaerner and Louise Heimann, both of Fredericksburg, Texas; and four sisters-in-law, Norma Kunz of Fredericksburg, Texas, Helen Fritz and Gertrude Maurer of Harper, Texas, and Leona Maurer of Nazareth, Texas. She leaves 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
