Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Estella Tipton, age 79, were held at 10:30 Saturday morning at Mt. Lebanon Church. Mrs. Tipton died from injuries received when hit by a backing automobile about 2:15 Thursday afternoon. She died in a Benton ambulance while en route to a Camden hospital.
The accident occurred when Mrs Tipton walked out on a driveway to pickup a newspaper at her home about a mile and a half north of Fordyce on Highway 167. Her grandson, W. B. Bryant, was backing his car out of the driveway and hit her.
Mrs. Tipton reportedly was hard of hearing and it is believed she did not hear the car. She lived next door to Bryant, a radio and TV repair service operator here.
Mrs. Tipton is survived by three sons, Vance Tipton and J. O. Tipton of Fordyce and Clarence Tipton of Banks; five daughters, Mrs. Erby Boyd, Mrs. Hope Finley and Mrs. Montie Bryant of Fordyce, Mrs. Johnny Wilson of Texarkana, and Mrs. Santo Carpino of Pittsburg, Kan.; 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted by Elder J. Cullen Johnson, Rev. Lawson Hatfield and Elder R. A. Raney. Burial in McCoy Cemetery was by Benton Funeral Home. Mrs. Tipton's grandsons served as pallbearers.
