Mary Faye Burrill Dempster Eyres, 99, lifelong Plymouth County resident, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at her home.
Mary Faye Burrill Dempster Eyres was born July 19, 1897 in rural Plymouth County, the daughter of George and Mary Jane Burrill. She lived in Union Township most of her life. On Jan. 20, 1916 she married Henry Dempster. He died in March 1963. She married Calvin Eyres on Jan. 28, 1967. He died in August 1980. She moved to LeMars in 1977. She was a member of Union Township Presbyterian Church for 81 years and faithfully attended until she could no longer drive. She was a member of the ladies circle named in her honor, "Mary Faye Circle." She had served as 4-H leader for 22 years. Mrs. Eyres enjoyed writing poetry and sharing her poems with her circle every month. She enjoyed doing handwork, flowers, and baking.
Survivors include a son and daugher-in-law, Darrel and Margie Dempster of LeMars; a daughter and son-in-law, Thelma and Glenn Reeves of LeMars; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lowell Dempster in July 1995, and a grandson, Thomas Berten Dempster. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
