Clara Bessie Voorhies of Scottsville, KY, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, at Cal Turner Extended Care in Scottsville. Born on May 15, 1915, in Greene County, IN, she was the daughter of William and Dolly (Arthur) Reed. She married Ernie Voorhies on June 3, 1931, and he died March 13, 1967.

Surviving are five daughters: Juanita Baker of Oolitic, IN, Helen Kent, Margaret York, and Janet Schmidt, all of Mitchell, IN, and Mary Baker of Scottsville, KY; four sons: George Voorhies of Albertsville, AL, Dale Voorhies of Crown Point, IN, Estel Voorhies of Mitchell, IN, and Orval Voorhies of Lake Village, IN; five sisters: Mae Voorhies of Springville, IN, Maxine Eastern and Alberta Allen, both of Bloomington, IN, Alice Harris of Bloomfield, IN, and Ola Fault of Worthington, IN; two brothers, Buddy Reed of Alabama and Everett Redd of Linton, IN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Dexter Voorhies; two sisters, Roberta England and Ora Harris; and two brothers, Albert and Lloyd Reed.

Services for Clara Voorhies will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 2nd, at the Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. David Grace officiating. Burial will follow in Springville West Cemetery.
