Endre was born in Vang, Valdres Norway in 1836. He and his family immigrated to the USA in 1849. They eventually settled in Tyske Grove, (Valley Grove), Rice County, Minnesota. This area is six miles south of Northfield, Minnesota.
In 1862 Endre volunteered to join the First Regiment of United States Sharphooters. He was in Company L which was also called the Second Company of Minnesota Sharpshooters. He and Company L were later attached to the First Regiment of Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. He saw much action in Virginia of 1862. On September 17th, 1862, Endre fought in the Battle of Antietam and was shot twice in the left thigh. While wounded, he was captured by the Confederate forces. Several days later he was paroled and taken to a Union Army hospital in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He survived with his leg intact, recovered and was mustered out of the Army due to disability.
He returned to Minnesota and married Anna Halvorsdatter in 1864. Together they raised a large family and farmed in the Northfield, Mn. area until 1882. That year,they moved to Dundee Township, Walsh County, North Dakota and homesteaded a farm. They lived, loved and eventually died there.
Endre and Anna are buried in the Park Center Church Cemetery. Endre and Anna donated the land for the church and cemetery site.

Gravesite Details

Endre and Anna have a beautiful gravestone just south of the Park Center Church building. It is leaning slightly towards the front of the stone.
