A funeral for former McMinnville resident Nellie E. Carlson of Bend will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church, McMinnville, with the Rev. Kent Harrop officiating.
Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.
Mrs. Carlson died March 24, 2003, in Careage House, Bend. She was 93.
She was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Las Animas, Colo., the daughter of John Robert and Jennie Leah Gruber Elliott.
She and Elmer Carlson were married Nov. 26, 1936, in Galeton, Colo.
She was a teacher in Galeton for four years and in Fruita, Colo., for a year. She moved to McMinnville in 1947.
Mrs. Carlson taught at Columbus Elementary School, McMinnville, from 1954 to 1960, then taught at McMinnville Junior High School until 1972. She lived in a log house in McMinnville for 40 years.
In McMinnville, she belonged to the First Baptist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma. She also was active in EARS, a group that raised funds to help hearing-impaired people pay for equipment they needed.
Family members said she was loved and cherished and was well-known for the raspberries she grew. She enjoyed her grandchildren, caring for her raspberry plants and growing houseplants.
Survivors include two sons, Don Carlson of Portland and Gene Carlson of Sisters; a daughter, Martha Lowe of Sewanee, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985 and a sister, Rada Elliott.
