A memorial service for Jessie V. Archibald of McMinnville will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.
Mrs. Archibald died May 17, 2002, in Oakwood Country Place, McMinnville. She was 88.
She was born July 6, 1913, in Holbrook, Idaho, the daughter of Warren W. and Ethel Sparks Vanderhoof. She grew up in Holbrook.
She and Reed Archibald were married Dec. 11, 1930, in Malad, Idaho.
The couple lived in Holbrook until 1936, when they moved to Amity. They lived in Lafayette and McMinnville in the early 1940s. Mrs. Archibald and her husband worked during World War II in the Portland shipyards, where she was a welder.
She moved with her family to Carlton in 1946. She owned and operated the Log Cabin Tavern in Carlton from 1953 to 1977. She and her husband then sold the business and retired. After retiring, the couple spent much of their time in their second home in Newport.
Mr. Archibald died in 1987. Mrs. Archibald moved back to McMinnville in 1991. She loved the coast, country music and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Lyman Archibald and Thomas Archibald, both of McMinnville; five daughters, Donnette Slater and Ethelyn Munro, both of McMinnville, Paula Fast of Perrydale, Barbara Sampson of Silverton and Norma Goff of Jensen, Utah; two sisters, Lorna Druliner of Powell Butte and Cleo Archibald of Chubbuck, Idaho; two brothers, Giles Vanderhoof of Salem and Warren Vanderhoof of Amity; 23 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Vernell Vanderhoof, Ed Vanderhoof, Harold Vanderhoof and Joe Vanderhoof.
