BARTLETT – Edward Goodnight, of Bartlett, died Sunday, March 2, in a Bartlett nursing home.

Services for Mr. Goodnight will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett with Rev. Dan Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Holland Cemetery.

Mr. Goodnight was born in Holland to Owen Letcher and Mary Lillian Duck Goodnight. He lived in Bartlett most of his life and was the former owner/operator of Goodnight Funeral Home. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and married Mary Helen Jackson. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bartlett.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Helen Goodnight of Bartlett; three daughters, Linda Wright of San Antonio, Sheila White and Marsha Soper, both of Houston; a brother, Wayne Goodnight of Holland; two sisters, Virginia Ragsdale of Belton and Betty Nutt of Valley Mills; and five grandchildren.

Services for Edward R Goodnight, lifetime resident of Bartlett, were held March 4, 2003 at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett with Rev Dan Roberts officiating. Burial was in Holland Cemetery.
He died Sunday March 2, 2003 in a Bartlett nursing home. Edward Goodnight was born in Holland to Mary Lillian Duck Goodnight and Owen Letcher Goodnight Sr. He attended Tulane University, the University of Texas and graduated from Commonweath College of Mortuary Science in Houston.

He was owner/manager of Goodnight Funeral Home from June 1, 1951 to Feb 18, 1988. Mr Goodnight was involved in the formation of the local Lion's Club and its first president, past president of the Chamber of Commerce and Toastmaster of the Bartlett Stag Party.

He was a city councilman for 10 years, mayor protem and participated in the establishment of the local library. He was chairman of the board of directors of Will O'Bell Nursing Home and president of the board of Bartlett Housing Authority.

On June 1, 1999 in Houston he was presented the 50 Year Recognition Award by the Texas Funeral Directors Association.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps Flying Training Command. On Dec 2, 1949 he married Mary Helen Jackson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers Owen Goodnight Jr, Melvin Goodnight, and Dr C W Goodnight; and two sisters Carolyn Richey and Mildred Walker. Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Goodnight of Bartlett; three daughters Linda Wright of San Antonio, Sheila White of Houston, and Marsha Soper of Houston; 5 grandchildren; one brother Wayne Goodnight of Holland; and two sisters Virginia Ragsdale of Belton and Bettye Nutt of Valley Mills. Goodnight Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
