Mr. Gassman was married October 12, 1885 to Agatha Dechant. God blessed this union with 10 children of whom four, Mary, Delphina, Joseph and Francis, preceded their father in death. He leaves as mourners his devoted wife and six children, John Gassman of Gorham; Jacob and Frederick Gassman, of Ness City; Mrs. Anna Bieker and Mrs. Catherine Hammerschmidt, of Gorham, and Mrs. Rose Pfannenstiel, of Ness City; besides two brothers, one sister and 11 grandchildren. Friday, October 19, 1928, the earthly remains of Peter Gassman were laid to rest in the Sacred Heart cemetery of Ness City. The Rev. Cyril Zeller, pastor, officiated at the Requiem high mass and the subsequent funeral services for which a large throng of the faithful had assembled to pay their last respects to the unassuming brother in Christ who had passed our of this lif October 17 1928, at his home Ness City. The church choir, under the direction of honoragle Phillip G. Leiker, rendered the inspiring Requiem of Casciolini, as also those impressive psalms and antiphones prescribed by the church for its burial services. The absence of all flower on the casket certainly brought out, and this in full compliance with the wish of the church, those important lessons which death should hold forth to those witnessing the burial of a frail mortal.

Peter and Agatha had one other child not listed here that died in infancy or very young, I have no other information for. Peter and Agatha also adopted a girl, Rose from the "orphan train". She married and moved to Texas.
