Clyde O'Kell Craven, 86, of Excelsior Springs MO, passed away Monday April 6, 2009 at Excelsior Springs Medical Center.

Born June 16, 1922 in Excelsior Springs MO he was the son of Hugh Allen and Hattie Alice (Wood) Craven. On February 9, 1946 in Liberty MO he was married to Loretta Fern Titus who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are a son, Bryce Craven and wife Sue of Lawson MO; two grandchildren, Zachary Craven and Lorri Craven both of Lawson, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Craven was a life-long resident of Excelsior Springs where he graduated from high school in 1940. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 as an ambulance driver in India. Following his discharge, he returned home and was married and then worked in construction and a cabinet maker. In the 1950's he formed Clyde Craven Custom Homes which he operated until his retirement in 1978.

Clyde was a member of Flack Memorial Christian Union Church. He had been a former member of Excelsior Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed fishing, music and was able to play any stringed musical instrument.

Funeral services will be held Thursday April 9, 2009 at 2pm at Flack Memorial Christian Union Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
