Rufus Hampton "Buck" Low was a son of Jonathan and Demarius Jones Low of Sardis. He moved to Sharkey County as a young man and made his living as a salesman. He married Harriet Ione Sylvester in 1899. They had three children, Rufus H., Jr., David, and Harriet. Following his first wife's death in 1907, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee and married Marie Johnston with whom he had a daughter, Donna Sue. Buck died suddenly in 1914 as a result of a gall bladder attack.
