HAMMER, HAZEL G.

Hazel G. Hammer, 81, 919 W. Central, died Monday at her home. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial followed the services in Blankinship Cemetery.

Mrs. Hammer was born Sept. 15, 1898 in the Ivanpah community, near Eureka. She was the daughter of William Perry and Mary Etta (Coulter) Kir.

On June 1, 1930, she was married to Ralph O. Hammer, in the Kirk's home, in Ivanpah. Mrs. Hammer was a retired teacher, having taught in the Reese, Rosalia and at McKinley grade School in El Dorado.

Memberships include the First United Methodist Church, past district chairman of the Altrua Club, the Butler County Kansas and National Retired Teacher's Associations, the Friendship Club, the National Wildlife Association and a charter member of the Kansas Wildflower Association.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Farrell (Ruth M.) Mitchel, Lawrence; Mrs. Ronald (Lois V.) Starr, Towanda, one sister, Mrs. Edna Olse, Ivanpah; one brother, (Glen Kirk, Ivenpah; five grandchildren, Paula, Troy and David Starr, Towanda; and Mark and Miriam Mitchel, Lawrence.

Because of her love for the Flint Hills and wildflowers, a memorial has been established at the Bradford Memorial Library for books on those subjects. (El Dorado Times, July 16, 1980, transcribed by Peggy Thompson)
