Aunt Bertha was the third child and second girl born to John and Catherine Haverkamp Walterscheid. There were 13 children born to the family but only nine lived to adulthood. Bertha went to Sacred Heart School through the eighth grade then began working out with families and even ventured as far as Dallas. She met John Morris Hacker and married him in Sacred Heart Church. She became the mother of 4 girls, JoAnn, Helen, Joyce, and Shirley, and two sons, Maurus and Giles (who didn't survive). She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Pelzel and Joyce Strittmatter of Pilot Point, Helen Muller of Bedford, Shirley Wilson of Gainesville, and son Maurus Hacker of Myra, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister, Dorothy Mae Yosten and several sisters-in-law, Augusta Walterscheid, Mary Ann Walterscheid, Peggy Walterscheid, and Louise Walterscheid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, son, Giles, parents, sisters, Sr. Thomasina Walterscheid, Angeline Eckart, Regina and Emma; and brothers, Alphons, Raymond, Norbert, Henry, Andy, Bernard and Emil.
