Virgil E. Gregg, 90, of Shelbyville, IL., died at 4:19 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Revs. Lynette DeAtley and Jim Whitacre officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Fourth Street United Methodist Church of Shelbyville or Ful-O-Pep 4-H Club.

Mr. Gregg was born on April 6, 1918, in Beecher City, IL., the son of Jesse and Fern (Cox) Gregg.

He was a retired farmer, life-long member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau and a 4-H leader for over 20 years. He was a member of the Fourth Street United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and a former member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church.

He married Edith L. Williams on April 2, 1938.

Surviving are his wife, Edith; son, David Gregg and wife, Betty, of Shelbyville; daughters: Janet Wines and husband, Dale, of Shelbyville; and Donna Rutledge and husband, Mike, of Decatur; daughters-in-law: Carol Dawdy and husband, Ben, of Shelbyville; and Cindy Gregg of Shelbyville; sisters-in-law: Doris Gregg, Jo Ann Gregg and Maxine Gregg, all of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Elaine Hardy, Michelle Kelm, Melissa Taggart, Rachel Banfield, Amy Metzger, Angela Canada, Alison Stephens, Scott Rutledge and Rebecca Richardson; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Byron Gregg and Darrell Gregg; four brothers, J.C. Gregg, Walter Lee Gregg, Leon Gregg and infant brother, Joe Gregg; and one sister, Pauline Reid.
