Capt. Frank Dow Passes Away At Home Near Here

Captain Frank M. Dow, 77, for nearly 50 years captain of ocean-going vessels, died early today at his home at Arco. While he had not been in the best of health recently, his death was unexpected.

Captain Dow spent 30 of his 50 years as a steamship captain with the old Mallory and Clyde lines. For many years he was commander of a passenger ship on the New York - Jacksonville run, which also made calls at Charleston and Brunswick. He retired a number of years ago.

While Captain Dow had made his home here for many years, he was, of course, away much of his time on his regular runs and he had friends in many ports, especially those along the South Atlantic coast.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Churchill Dow; an adopted son, Frank C. Dow, of Jacksonville, Florida.; a daughter, Mrs. Edna Taylor, Mathews, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Abbie Brooks, Portsmouth, Va., and a brother, Henry Dow, also of Mathews.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed and will be announced later by Mortician Edo Miller.
