Climaxing a five-day search, the frrozen body of George Burkett, 77-year old Eldred township farmer who had been missing from his home a week, was found near the Big Dam on North Fork creek at 2:45 Sunday afternoon.

The body was discovered by Charles Honadle, of Summit street, one of a party of firemen and sportsmen who left Brookville early Sunday afternoon to search for the missing man. The spot where the body was found is about four miles from the Burkett home.

The remains were brought to the Reitz undertaking parlors here where it was examined by County Coroner Irs D. Bowser, who pronounced death due to exposure. He had probably been dead since the day he disappeared.

A watch, knife and pipe were the only articles found in his pockets. Reports that he had a large sum of money on him when he disappeared, and which led to rumors of oul play, were not substantiated by relatives.

Burkett, who lived alone, was last seen alive on Sunday, March 18, about 6:30 a.m. along the Moore bridge road by Mrs. Clyde Moore. His absence was firt noticed the following Tuesday night by neighbors when no lights were burning in his home, and a general search started the following day.

Brookville firemen and Boy Scouts, CCC campers and others joined in the search, combing the woods for miles in every direction, from where Burkett was last seen. The section was on of the wildest in Jefferson county.

Tracks of the missing man were discovered leading to the vicinity of the Big Dam and the man hunt centered about that locatlity.

When four days of searching failed to locate him the opinion prevailed that he had probably fallen into North Fork creek.

Early Sunday afternoon 32 sportsmen and firemen under the leadership of R. S. Wensel Walter Evans and Fred Williamson went to the Big Dam prepared to dynamite in an effort to raise the body if it were in the water.

While the dam was being cleared of ice, Honadle, who had wandered up the creek alone stumbled across the missing mans body about 20 years from the mouth of Tarkill run. He had probably been dead since the day he was last seen.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. F. W. Ford of Euclid avenue in charge of ...............assisted by Rev. .........Pierce. Burial was in Brookville cemetery.
