Andrew Joseph DeCalb "Andy" Dobbins was born on 29 Jun 1846 in Rutherford Co., NC. He appeared on the census in 1850 in Rutherford Co., listed as J. DeCalb Dobbins. He appeared on the census in 1860 in Rutherford County, and in 1870 and 1880 in Cobb County, Ga. He served in the CSA army in Co C, 34th NC Infantry. He died on 25 Aug 1904 in Cobb County. He married Martha L. Wallace (daughter of Toliver Wallace and Nancy Dycus) on 28 Dec 1865 in Rutherford County, NC.

I moved to Ga. Jan 1866, Born Rutherford Co., N.C. June 28 1846. Enlisted Rutherford Co. Aug 1863 Co C 34th Regiment was in service about 16 months. Was captured at Petersburg, Va. Dec 1864 & remained in prison till close of war.
What is present occupation? None due to blindness
How much can you earn by own labor now? 0
I was a brick mason till I lost eyesight due to accidental blast of powder.
What property or income do you have? No Property - No income
What property did you possess in 1894-1898? nothing but household and kitchen goods.
What County did you reside during those years? Cobb County
How were you supported during 1897-1898? By my trade till lost eyesight.
Have you a family? I have a wife and 2 daughters, My daughters labor for a living.

OBITUARY - The Marietta Journal, Marietta, Georgia., Thursday Morning, Nov. 3, 1904
Death of Mr. Dobbins
Mr. A. J. Dobbins died at his home in this place on Tuesday night of last week [25 Oct.], after a week's illness. He was 59 years of age and leaves a wife and six grown children, two sons and four daughters. He was night watchman at the Marietta Paper Mill, and was a worthy and respected citizen and his death is regretted. He was a member of the Baptist Church. His funeral was conducted by Rev. J. J. Crow on Thursday morning [Oct. 27]. Interment in city cemetery. Our sympathy to the bereaved family.
