Pioneer Mt. Bethel
Citizen Dies At 86

One of the first settlers of Mt. Bethel community succumbed this morning at the age of 86.

Mrs. Susan Dobbins Dickerson, who came to Cobb County at the age of 2 in a covered wagon, died suddenly of a heart attack.

The three-week trip from North Carolina to Mt. Bethel was made in a covered wagon caravan composed of 52 persons and 72 head of cattle. Among the 52 persons were four newly-wed couples: Mr. and Mrs. James Dobbins, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dickerson, and a Mr. and Mrs. Wallace, and Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Hollyfield. These names still are identified with Mt. Bethel's development and growth. Mrs. Dickerson's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Drury Dobbins.

The original settling site of the pioneers is the present Hugh Spalding farm.
