Nora Frances Hinnant, born 1879, 6th of 8 known children born to Littleberry/Little Berry Hinnant (CSA) and Catherine "Kate" Chamblee of Wilder Township, Johnston Co, NC.

Her father served as Captain with the "Clayton Yellow Jackets" NC 24th, Co. C., CSA. She ws the paternal grandchild of Jesse Hinnant and Elizabeth Hawkins "Hawk" Hayles of Johnston County; and is a direct descendant of William Hinnant and Sarah Raines known to be in Johnston County ca. 1770. Her maternal grandparents were John Chamblee and his (2nd) wife, Delilah "Dilly" Strickland, of Wake County.

Nora married Atlas M. Branch about 1895 when she was about 16 years old, and he 23. The couple lived briefly in Reidsville, Rockingham County, but later returned to St. Mary's (Garner) to farm.

They would parents to 11 known children (6 boys/5 girls): Gladys (c. 1896), Beatrice (c. 1898), John D. (1901), Marie (c. 1904), Leslie Oliver (1906), Douglas M. (c. 1909), Minnie R. (c. 1911), Cecil H. (1914), Paul R. (c. 1917), Lois C. (c. 1919) and Howard J. (c. 1923).

Nora was widowed at age 57 when her husband of 41 years passed in 1936 at age 64. Nora remained a widow another 19 years, passing in 1955 at age 75.
