Elda Afton Cloward, 97, formerly of Iona, died March 27, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Logan, Utah, to Jasper Conrad Knowles and Afton Brown Knowles. The family moved to Iona, where she grew up and attended schools.

On June 25, 1929, she married Farron Cloward in Dillon, Mont. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 9, 1958. She was a mother and homemaker and also worked for the Bonneville Joint School District 93. She lived in Iona until 2005, when she moved to live with her daughter, Marjean, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a secretary in the MIA for eight years. Elda enjoyed fishing, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Marjean Burns of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Boyd Cloward; a daughter, Marsha Holverson; and a granddaughter, Kathy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Iona Cemetery.
