Michael Thomas Dead, Passes Away at His Home in Elder Township on Wednesday Morning.
Michael Thomas, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Northern Cambria county died at his home near St. Boniface at 3 o'clock on Wednesday morning. His death was due to a complication of diseases and followed a lingering illness extending over a period of nearly two years. Deceased was born in Germany in Oct. 20, 1833, and had he lived until Saturday of this week would have been 73 years of age. When he was but two years of age he was brought to this country by his parents who settled near St. Lawrence. Forty six years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Gates in the Catholic Church at St. Lawrence. To this union fourteen children were born - seven sons and seven daughters. Two daughters preceded him to the grave. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Edward of Patton; Mary, wife of Emory Weakland, Thaddeus, Harry and Emma, wife of John Semelsberger, all of Elder Township. Benjamin of St. Boniface, Levi of this place, Margaret wife of Henry Schimp, Celia, wife of Peter Yeager, and Samuel of Elder Township and Vincent and Rese at home. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Jacob of Thomas Mills, John - ex associate Judge of Cambria County of Ebensburg; Valentine of Carrolltown; Martin of Patton, Mrs. Martin Yahner of St. Lawrence, Mrs. George Kibler of St. Boniface, Mrs. Charles Langbine of Patton. The funeral services will be conducted in the Catholic Church at St. Boniface at 9:30 this (Friday) morning with a Requiem High Mass by Rev. Weiland after which the remains will be interred in the church cemetery.
