Jacob W. Bettis was the son of Eli Bettis and Dorothy Lewis Bettis. He married Judith Ann Walker and moved from Jefferson County, Tennessee to Crittenden County in western Kentucky, before 1850. Jake was a farmer. Several years after the Civil War, his brother, Duke Kimbrough Bettis also moved to Crittenden County.

Juda Walker and Jake Bettis were married on December 1, 1843. They were parents of Nancy, Dorothy, John, Jacob Henry and one more.

Jake's sister Mary Anna Bettis married Stanton Pierce. They were married in Jefferson County, TN and later moved to Crittenden County, KY.

Jake died at his home near Irma, Kentucky. The cause of death was la grippe. He was survived by his wife, four children, 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

For about 43 years, Jake was a Mason. He was a member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church.
