Daughter of Asa Cadwallader and Jane Haines

Married Abia William Brown, 28 Apr 1830, Damascus, Columbiana, Ohio. He died 27 Aug 1848, Near Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois.

History - Abigail (Abby) Cadwallader was born 31 Jan 1797, to Asa and Jane Haines Cadwalller, in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania. they were Quakers in every sense of the word. She had a Quaker wedding. Her husband was Abia William Brown of Damascus, Jefferson County, Ohio. He was born 18 Oct. 1799 to Ann Kempton and Samuel Biles Brown at Mount Holly, Burlington, New Jersey.

To this union were born five little girls, two of them died while in childhood. Also two boys, one of these died in infancy.

Abia William Brown, husband of Abby Cadwallader, was a practicing physician. He died 28 Aug. 1848, near Nauvoo Illn. Although he never investigated or embraced the gospel he resented very seriously the persecutions of the Saints in Nauvoo and the fact that they had no redress of grievances. Abia Jr. never forgot how his father felt in this matter and that he was especially bitter when the saints were driven from Nauvoo.

We do not know when Abby accepted the gospel and was baptized, but she and her daughter Ann crossed the plains with Dr, John Dunyon and his three children. After reaching Salt Lake City he married Ann, they made their home at the point of the Mt. the ranch was called the half-way station or inn. A large sign hung near the house on which was printed, "Our Mountain Home-- Meals at all hours, by J.L. Dunyon." He also homesteaded 640 acres of land. Abby lived here with them helping out wherever she could.

When Johnson's army came to Salt Lake Valley President Young advised all widows to marry, her children persuaded her to marry Ben Brown, No relation to her deceased husband, but she never lived with him. Latter this marriage was annulled and she was sealed to her First husband, Abia William Brown.

Abby died at the Dunyon home on 22 August 1872. She was buried in Salt Lake City Utah.
