David was involved with the local Government for many years. Supervisor of the Town of Washington 1861 until 1863, Superintendent of the Poorhouse from 1881-1883 and Commissioner of Highways in the Town of Washington for 16 years.
September 2nd 1885 while working on the roads near Little Rest he along with two employees Robert Butts & George Morey were accosted about 1 pm by a dissolute character who then shot Mr Butts twice. The man was held in Millbrook, he was found guilty and sentenced to ten years hard labor in Sing Sing prison.
He was the last surviving charter member of the Shekomeko Lodge F & A. One of the oldest and best known residents of the Town of Washington. Prominent in county politics for many years.
He was an Umpire in the early years of local Mens Club Baseball.
