Alvin W. (sic) Grulke

Alwin W. Grulke, 68, of Bismarck Township died Saturday, February 6, at his home. The son of Henry and Edna (Claus) Grulke, he was born February 3, 1931 in Rogers City, and moved with his family to Hawks in 1934. He graduated from Rogers City High School in 1949 and then moved to Detroti where he worked for Chrysler Corporation.

In 1951 he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Following his discharge in 1953 he returned to this area and married Margaret Orban Decemebr 12, 1953 at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Hawks. They made their home in Royal Oak where he was a member of the American Legion and our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham. He was employed by General Motors at its Technical Center in Warren as a shipping and receiving supervisor for many years until his retirement in 1986. In that year they moved to their vacation home at Lake Nettie.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Hawks where he served as the church reasurer several years. He was also a member of the Rogers City Servicemen's Club, the Rogers City Men's Bowling Association, Rogers City Spitzer League, Rogers City Horsehoe League and the Lucky Seven Hunting Club in Bismarck Township.

Surviving are his wife, Marge; a daughter, Terry (Mrs. Duane) Basel of Hawks; two sons, Dean and his wife Tina Grulke of Royal Oak and Mark Grulke of Sanford; two grandsons; six sisters, Arlene Chambers of Redford, Bette Rhode and Eleanor (Mrs. Harry) Fleming of Rogers City, Leona (Mrs,. John) Habermehl, Erna Schuler of Alpena, and Alice (Mrs. Alvin) Rasche of Saginaw; four brothers and wives, Donand and Virginia, Robert and Lois, Richard and Sandy, all of Hawks, Wilmer and Sonja of Royal Oak; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeced in death by his parents; and a brother, Adolph, December 4, 1998. Friends called Sunday at the Bill Brietzke Funeral Home where a prayer service was conducted that evening. Funeral service was Monday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harold Molzan officiating. Interment will be at the Faith Lutheran Cemetery.
