He made his home in Rogers City until 1934 when they moved to Hawks. He graduated from Rogers City High School in 1942 and then entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Philippines and South Pacific during World War II and following his discharge in 1945 he returned to live in the Detroit area. He and Agnes H. Kauppila were married September 4, 1948 at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Hawks by the Rev. Otto Koenig. They made their home in Farmington Hills, where he was employed as a tool and die maker for Excello Corporation for 20 years, and also worked as an agent for the Aid Association for Lutherans Fraternal Life Insurance Company. Following his retirement in 1983 they moved to their vacation home at Lake Nettie. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Hawks, an organizer and member of the German American Club, the Rogers City Servicemen's Club, active with the Rogers City Men's Bowling League and Spitzer League, and the Senior League of the Rogers City Country Club.
