THE DEATH OF MR. WALLACE

John S. Wallace, a well known and well-to-do citizen of this county, died last Thursday morning at his late residence on Christian's creek, aged 48 years, after a brief illness with acute indigestion. The funeral took place Friday afternoon from Bethel Church, of which deceased was a member and the services were conducted by Rev. R. A. Lapsley and Dr. A.M. Fraser.

The pall-bearers were: Active -- John H. and Ashby Brooks, George A. and John A. Shields, Lee S. Christian, R.F. Larew, J.M. and John H. McClure.

Honorary -- A.G. Christian, J.W. Wallace, S.F. Pilson and J.D. Lilley.

A large number of people were present at the funeral to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased, many of whom were from Staunton.

Mr. Wallace was the son of Wm. Wallace. He is survived by one brother, R. Frank Wallace, of this county, one sister, Mrs. J.N. McFarland, and one half brother, W. Wayt King, of this city. He was never married.
