Train-Car Crash Kills Two
Teen-Ager And Mother
Beaumont, Tex. (AP) - A car crashed into a Southern Pacific passenger train shortly before noon yesterday, killing a mother and her teen-aged son in the car and sending several railroad cars off the track.

None of the 40 to 60 passengers on the train, the Sunset Limited en route from San Francisco to New Orleans, was hurt.

Killed were Mrs. Ramona S. LEMKI, 35, Morgan City, La., and her son, Benson [LEMKI], 13.

The crash occurred at 11:40 a. m. at Terry Crossing on Farm Road 1135 some 12 miles east of Beaumont and about 20 miles from the Texas-Louisiana border.

Officers said the car slammed into the second unit of the diesel engine. The car was carried about 175 yards down the track and literally torn in half.

The two victims and the family dog, also killed, were thrown from the car by the impact.

The train's conductor said the train was traveling 72 miles an hour. It had left Houston about 20 minutes late.
