The daughter of Roy and Maude Newberry was born on Feb. 8, 1929. in Artesia, N.M., and passed away on March 20, 2009, at the local hospital.

She and Wallace Thatcher were married on May 19, 1947, in Portales, N.M., and he preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Thatcher was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Carol Thatcher and Thomas Thatcher; three sisters, Betty Graham, Velma Thorne and Imogene Bower; and a grandson, Aaron Epperson.

Mrs. Thatcher moved to Ardmore in November of 2005 from Sweetwater, Colo. She loved collecting antiques, playing with her grandchildren and was a great cook. Mrs. Thatcher was a homemaker, member of the Eastern Star and of the Protestant Faith.

She is survived by her son: James Thatcher and wife Jodie of Sweetwater, Colo.; daughters, Jeannie Epperson and husband Darell of Canon City, Colo., and Shirley Thatcher of Ardmore, Okla.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Viola Orcutt of Fallbrook, Calif., Norma Sites of Roswell, N.M., Virginia Poe and husband Steve of Portales, N.M., and Mary Morgan and husband Bill of Illinois; brothers, Robert Newberry and wife Marilee of Parshall, Colo., Herbert Newberry and wife Caroline of Portales, N.M., and Gale Newberry and wife Janelle of Portales, N.M.; sister-in-law, Marge Thatcher of Sunnyvale, Calif.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Lynn Thatcher of Golden, Colo.
