Betty Ann Newberry Graham Coble

Early Life: Betty was born September 17, 1931, on the family farm in Portales, New Mexico, to Roy and Maude Johnson Newberry. She was the sixth of twelve children and enjoyed growing up and working on the farm until she graduated from Portales High School.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: On a trip to Montana, Betty met Mervil "Merv" Graham; they were married July 20, 1953, in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. They had five children together: Judy, twins Steve and Patti, Susan and Laurie. They made their home in Philipsburg until Merv passed away in 1968. Betty was then married to Paul Coble until they later divorced. During her long life in Philipsburg, Betty was involved in many organizations and was known as "Grandma Betty" to many local children. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Betty worked as a cook at the school cafeteria and local establishments for many years. She greatly enjoyed being a member of the Ladies Bowling League and always looked forward to her road trips with her special friend, Bonnie Pederson. Her favorite pastime was spending time with and chasing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed. Betty Ann Newberry Graham Coble passed away at her home in Philipsburg on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005. She was 74 year old.
Survived By: Son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Donna) Graham, of Anaconda, MT; daughters and sons-in-law: Judy (Jeff) Weiber, of Pullman, WA; Patti (Willie) McClellan, of Missoula, MT; Susan (Dave) Croft, of Philipsburg, MT; and Laurie Graham and Keith Madison, of Missoula; brothers and sisters: Viola Orcutt, of Fallbrook, CA; Herbert and Caroline Newberry, Gale and Janelle Newberry, Steve and Virginia Poe, and Norma Sites, all of Portales, NM; Bob and Marilee Newberry, of Partial, CO; Marybell and Bill Morgan, of Chicago; and Patricia Thatcher, of Colorado; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including longtime friend, Bonnie Pederson.
Preceded In Death By: Her parents, Roy and Maude Newberry; sisters: Velma, Billie Jean and Jean; husband, Merv Graham; an infant daughter, Spring Beth Coble; and a great-granddaughter, Briley Turenne.
