EDWARD PROPST IS HONORED AT RITES IN MENARD CHURCH
Greenview, Aug. 28. - Member of the Christian church gave a short song service Sunday morning in honor of Edward Propst, long the senior elder of the church, in honor of his ninetieth birthday anniversary.

The second oldest Union Civil war veteran in Menard county, Mr. Propst joined the northern army in February, 1865, and served until October of the same year. He served as chaplain and was commander of the local post.

He also helped organize the Christian church, and has served as Sunday school superintendent for more than thirty years.

Mr. Propst was born on a farm near Sweetwater.

In 1870, he married Amanda Kincaid. Of this marriage only children surviving are Edward, of Watertown, S.D., and Dick Propst, of New York.

Following the death of his first wife, he married, in 1921, Miss Missouri Taylor. They have two sons, Harold, aged 8, and Carl, aged 5.

Mr. and Mrs. Propst, with two sons, reside in this city, and the veteran is a familiar figure on the streets.

Always active in educational work, he served on the school board many years.

He was justice of the peace over forty years, as well as serving in other offices of the town.

Bloomington, Ill., Feb. 7. - Funeral services were held in Greenview today for Edward Propst, civil war veteran.

Mr. Propst gained national prominence a few years ago following his second marriage when he became the father of two boys, now 8 and 5 years old.

Mr. Propost was 90 years old and had been a member of the school board for 15 years.

He served with Company A, 152nd Illinois infantry.
