A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John T. Wherry, she was reared in the Wyoming . Iowa, community, graduating from the Wyoming high school and the conservatory of music of Monmouth college, Monmouth, Illinois, in pipe organ and piano. After studying piano with Rudolph Ganz of Chicago, she taught music at Tabor College, Tabor, Iowa. For a brief period she engaged in concert work and then took up public school music, teaching in the schools of Garner, Manchester, Clarkson, Washington, [Iowa] and Iron Mountain, Michigan. At intervals during these years of teaching she took post-graduate work at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa; Northwestern University, Chicago; Columbia University, New York City; University of Iowa, Iowa City, and with Dr. F. Melius Christiansen of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. Survivors are a brother, Don Wherry of Wyoming, a sister, Mrs. Beth Schaefer of Olympia, Washington, two nephews, Richard F. and John D. Wherry, and two nieces, Winifred J. and Lois E. Schaefer.
