In 1901 he married Julia MacDaniel Weaver in Washington, DC. She died 13 months later. In 1904 he married Margaret L. Fitzgerald in Washington, DC. They had one son Francis. In 1920 Stephen and Francis were both in San Francisco as civilian employees Quarter Master Corps (Messenger).
