Miss Florence E. Black, 72, descendant of a pioneer Clark County family, died in Mercy Hospital at 8:45 p.m. Monday. She had resided at 202 Hawthorne rd. Miss Black had been in failing health for the last five years but had been seriously ill for only several days.
She was born in Springfield, Dec. 17, 1881, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Anthony Black. Miss Black had lived in Springfield all her life. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Charles Winters of Birmingham, Ala. and Mrs. John McDorman of Bloomington, Ill.; one brother, James Black, of York, Pa. and a number of nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to Richards Memorial Home.
