Jessie Corine Shires was born April 14, 1903, north of Hagerman near Flowing Wells. She attended Independence School in that area. She married Marshall Foreman Russell September 26, 1920, at the home of her parents, John & Annie Shires of Hagerman, Texas. They were married by L.S. White, Church of Christ minister, after Marshall returned from France at the end of World War I. Marshall Russell was a chauffeur for General John J. Pershing during World War I. Marshall and Corine, when they were first married, lived for a while near Roswell, New Mexico. They traveled for 27 days by covered wagon to reach Roswell, where they homesteaded the land for one year before returning to Texas.
They returned to Texas and had two children while living there. David and Juanita. They traveled to Vero Beach, Florida, and lived there for four years where Thelma was born. They returned to Texas again and settled near Gordonville. They lived in that vicinity for many years until they were forced to leave because of the construction of Denison Dam. Four children were born to them while living near Flowing Wells. They were: Mary Frances; Betty; Nolan and Gloria. They moved to Sadler where Linda was born. They lived in Sadler about six years before moving to Denison where Marshall worked for W.J. Smith Wood Preserving Company. They lived in Denison for the remainder of their days. Marshall Foreman Russell died August 4, 1977 and Jessie Corine Shires Russell died September 29, 1992.
Marshall Russell had many different types of jobs in his life. He farmed the land near Gordonville and Flowing Wells. He worked on construction in Florida and he also worked on the Mississippi Levy. While living in Sadler he worked for the Katy railroad. Marshall Russell was born May 30, 1894, near Princeton, Texas and grew up in Sherman and attended school there.
David Russell and Juanita Russell attended school in Gordonville and graduated from Whitesboro High School. Thelma Russell attended Gordonville school, Whitesboro High School and graduated from Denison High School. Frances Russell attended Gordonville School and graduated from Sadler High School. Betty Russell attended Gordonville school and also graduated from Sadler High School. Nolan Russell attended Gordonvile school, Sadler school and graduated from Denison High School. Gloria Russell attended attended Sadler school and graduated from Denison High School. Gloria Russell was one of the Denison High School Band members who marched in the Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. in 1953 when former President Dwight D. Eisenhower was inagurated. Linda Russell graduated from Denison High School. Grayson County College was established in 1966 and Linda was part of the first class to enroll.
Marshall and Corine Russell were members of the Gordonville Church of Christ, Sadler Church of Christ and Central Church of Christ, Denison.
