Marshall Foreman Russell was born May 30, 1894 at Princeton, Texas near McKinney, to W. J .S Russell and Julia Frances Elmore Russell.
In 1906 at the age of 12 he moved to Sherman with his parents. They purchased a large 17 room house at 1103 E. College. He attended school in Sherman, one of which was Washington School. He was active in football and sports.
In 1917 Marshall enlisted in the U.S. Cavalry and in a short time he was sent to France. He was a chauffeur for General John J. Pershing until 1919 and held the rank of sergeant. He was discharged in 1919 and returned to Gordonville.
He soon met Corine Shires and on September 26, 1920 they were married in the home of her parents, John S. and Annie Shires at Hagerman, Texas. They had 8 children. Seven were born in Grayson County and one in Vero Beach, Florida. David; Juanita; Thelma; Frances; Betty; Nolan; Gloria and Linda.
Marshall and Corine were members of the Church of Christ at Gordonville, Sadler and Central in Denison. He was a Bible class teacher for many years. He died August 4, 1977 and was buried at Mt. Tabor cemetery, north of Whitesboro near Gordonville.
