Elmore (Elmer) Callaway was the son of Phillip Daniel (Dan) Callaway and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bowen Callaway. He married Martha Verona (Pink) Anderson while very young. According to Harold D. Callaway, Sr.'s research for "The Callaways of Tattnall County, Georgia", Elmer's life ended abruptly, but no reason was given. He died at age 32. Harold Callaway states (p. 153), "A baby son was born who was named Paul. Paul died twelve days short of being 10 months old. Elmer joined the church the day Paul died, but died himself four days later before being baptized."
