Richard Johnson Stanley was a farmer, a Justice of the Peace and a Mason.

He gave land to the Surry County Board of Education for two schools. The names of the schools were Stanley School and Fairview School. He taught at both.

On 17 February 1881 when Richard Johnson "Dick" Stanley was 27, he married Elizabeth Catherine "Lizzie" BAKER, daughter of David BAKER & Elizabeth HUTCHENS, in Surry County, North Carolina.

S/O Jesse (he started Bear Creek Baptist Church) and Sarah Wilmoth Stanley. Paternal grandparents were John Stanley, Sr. and Mary ? Stanley. Maternal grandparents were Stephen and Elizabeth Snow Wilmoth. (Recorded by: K. Ned Beasley, h/o Teresa Sizemore Beasley, 1st cousin 4 times removed)
