Records indicate that he was 5'8" tall, with fair complexion, blue eyes, and auburn hair, born in Perry County, Mississippi. The company muster roll of Mar-Apr 1863, notes "Hospital Chattanooga since Apr 17, 1863 by order Surgeon." He died 5 May 1863, in Gilmer Hospital in Chattanooga of typhoid. He had $24 in his possession which was turned over to the surgeon in charge, who subsequently turned the funds over to the Council of Administration. His mother, Sarah Hathorn, filed for and received his back pay and commutation for clothing in the amount of $64.33.
