William Collier did not have a son named Joseph. No sons were living when he came to the colonies. No son named Joseph was born to him. The parents of Joseph Collier of Hartford are unknown. William Collier was a member of the Company of Merchant Adventurers of London who provided the "Mayflower" and the resources to outfit it for its voyage to New England in 1620. He was a grocer in London. William Collier and his wife, Jane, with their 4 living daughters, migrated to Plymouth Colony about 1633 where he served as on of the Assistant Governors, 1635-37, 1639-51, and 1654-65, as well as serving on several committees.
