Davis Love Fair, Jr., 95, died of natural causes Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Louisville/Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville. Mr. Fair was born January 25, 1914.
Services are 1 pm today at First Presbyterian Church in Louisville with visitation to be held at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.

Mr. Fair attended Louisville Public Schools before graduating from Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport. In 1932, he entered the University of Mississippi where he was active in Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and was a member of ODK honorary. He was manager of the Ole Miss Basketball team, an M-Club member, and graduated from Ole Miss in 1936.
His first work was with DL Fair Lumber Company plants at Shuqualak, Bruce, and Grenada. He came home to the Louisville plant in 1940.
From 1942 to 1946, he served as a Captain in the Army Air Corp. He served as Vice President of DL Fair Lumber Company from 1948-1952. He followed his father, D. L. Fair, Sr. as President of the Company in 1952 until its purchase by Georgia Pacific in 1965. Mr. Fair held directorships in the National Oak Flooring Manufactures Association, the Southern Pine Association, the South Pine Association, and was past President of the Mississippi Forestry Association. He served as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church in Louisville, was past President of the Louisville Rotary Club, and a Trustee and President of the Louisville School Board. Mr. Fair had a deep commitment to the Louisville Public School System.
Mr. Fair was voted Man of the Year and Tree Farmer of the Year for Louisville and Winston County in 1982. He served on the board of Trustees of French Camp Academy, and was a charter member of the Louisville Country Club.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 62 years, Jen Fair; son, Davis Love Fair, III and wife, Anne of Oxford; daughters, Madelon Cotton and husband, James of Atlanta, Georgia and Mary Graves of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Davis L. Fair IV, Allison Chambliss, Drew Fair, James B. Graves, III, and Belle Fair Graves; and five great grandchildren.
