Jacob and his wife Fannie Agnes Dickinson born 27 September 1838, daughter of Sarah (Lewis) and Daniel Dickinson, were married on 28 November 1858. Jacob died of pneumonia at the young age of thirty-five on 3 October 1865. They had two children Alice Hill born 25 July 1860 and William Austin Hill born 28 September 1863. Jacob's widow Fannie Agnes who had two small children later married Mitchell Hill a brother of her deceased husband on 2 April 1867 in Shiawassee County Michigan. Mitchell served in the Civil War before they were married.
Jacob was the son of David Hill born 1 January 1800 at Point Au Tremble near Algonac Michigan and Calista Amelia Trombley born 19 April 1803 in Detroit Michigan.
