Mildred Luella Phillips

Mildred Luella Phillips, 90, of North Platte, NE entered into Heaven Monday, January 5, 2009.

Mildred was born October 26, 1918 at Healy, KS to Martin Luther and Grace Johnston Weekly. She grew up mostly in Maxwell, NE and North Platte, NE and was largely entertained and a little aggravated by her elder brother Wayne and elder sister Eldora, and younger brothers Myron (Buck) and Robert (Bob) Weekly. In May 1936 Mildred graduated from North Platte High School and continued her education throughout life through her love of reading. She had many jobs and enjoyed working for Dr. Hyland, Sr. and Bethesda Nursing Home. She also worked at J.M. McDonald's and Maurice's.

Mildred married Allen Benson Phillips May 19, 1940 in North Platte where they made their home until 1979 when they moved to a home they built on Jeffrey Lake south of Brady where she loved to fish. In 1990 they moved back to North Platte, NE. Mildred and Allen loved each other and lived together for over 68 years. They enjoyed traveling after retirement and visited every state in the continental USA.

Mildred enjoyed helping others in her many jobs including dental assistant and nursing home nurses' aid. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. Mildred was an original founder and lifelong member of over 74 years at the First Church of the Nazarene Church, now known as the Parkview Community Church of the Nazarene in North Platte, NE. She had served in the church as a Sunday School teacher, pianist and a board member. Her joy of life, wisdom and compassion for others will be missed.

Survivors include her husband Allen Phillips of North Platte, NE; 3 sons, Jerry N. and wife Rita Phillips of Fort Garland, CO, Allen L. and wife Jayne Phillips of Colorado Springs, CO, and Arthur R. and wife Melinda Phillips of York, NE; 2 daughters, Sharon E. and husband Richard Karr of McCook, NE, and Ardis K. and husband Brian Allison of Chesterfield, MO; 1 brother, Robert and wife Beverly Weekly of Kaiser, OR; 17 grandchildren, Jodi, Jami, Brett, Lori, Chris, Paul, Amy, Peter, Nathan, Amanda, Austin, Dawn, Erik, Darrin, Sandra, Michael and Sarah; 21 great-grandchildren; and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jack Eugene Phillips; 2 brothers, Wayne and Myron Weekly; and a sister, Eldora Youker.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at Parkview Community Church of the Nazarene in North Platte, NE with Pastor Richard Karr officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. The family has established a memorial. Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore in charge of arrangements.
