Vendol Abernathy, 74, of Morehouse, MO, died Feb. 27, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Born Oct. 3, 1929, in Poplar Bluff, MO, son of the late Joseph Matthew and Sarah Elizabeth Phillips Abernathy, he lived in Morehouse most of his life. A US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired truck driver and member of the Oneness Pentecost Church in Morehouse.
On March 11, 1956, at Fisk, MO, he married Mary Davis who preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1997.
Survivors include: four sons, Trenton James Abernathy, Ernie Dale Abernathy, Kevin Nathaniel Abernathy and Trennis Lee Abernathy; one sister, Delpha "Dale" Dement; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Cecil Abernathy, Herbert Abernathy, Grover Abernathy and Johnny Abernathy; and three sisters, Rose Bennett, Thelma "Tince" Newman and Alma Smith.
Visitation was at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse.
Services were conducted at the Oneness Pentecost Church in Morehouse with the Rev. Jimmy Vent of Morehouse, officiating.
Burial followed in the McGee Chapel Cemetery near Glenallen.
