He married Anna Rose Hutner in 1920. This marriage was arranged by his brother, Edwin and wife, Ette Hutner. They had two living children; a daughter, Judith Rose, and a son, Harold. One died in childbirth.
He owned several businesses in Bangor, Bucksport and Old Town.
One of his businesses was selling household items from a horse and wagon. During one of his trips, the wagon turned over and fell on top of him. This injury resulted in his right leg being apputated and replaced by a wooden leg.
He died of geng gren in the Bangor General Hospital. He was survived by his wife, Anna, two children; Judith Epstein Oliver and Harold Epstein and two granddaughters, Deborah Oliver Levine and Stephanie Lynn Oliver.
