V.J. "Jim" Copeland, 56, former Elk County sheriff, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1987. Services 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church; 2 p.m. Wednesday, Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville.

Survivors: wife, Helen; daughter, Teresa Carmichael of Emporia; stepsons, Ed Triboulet of Moline, Jeff Triboulet of Gulfport, Miss., James Triboulet of Howard; stepdaughters, Peggy Moore, DeAnn Camp, both of Augusta, Carolyn Corle of Elk Falls, Betty Sauer of Wichita, Juanita Miller of Grenola; parents, Earl and Myrtle Eunice Copeland of Bucklin; brothers, Ernest of Littleton, Colo., Lawrence of Keys, Okla.; three grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the Elk County Ministerial Alliance and the St. Francis Endowment Association Oncology Unit, Wichita. Zimmerman Funeral Home.
