WALTHAM Richard "Rocky" Ahlman, of Waltham, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Kindred Hospital in Waltham, after a brief illness. He was 65. The son of the late John P. and Eileen L. (McQuigan) Ahlman, he was born, raised and educated in Waltham, where he had been a lifelong resident. Mr. Ahlman was a retired employee of the city of Waltham, having worked for 20 years with the public works department, and had been a taxi operator for many years prior through Waltham Cab. A veteran of the Army, he served as a tech sergeant medical corpsman at Fort Hood, Texas, with Company D, 48th Medical Battalion, 2nd Armored Division of the Fourth Army, receiving the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the V.F.W. Waltham Post. He was a member of the Waltham Lodge of Moose, No. 1018, and had been a former governor. Mr. Ahlman is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda J. (LaCava) Ahlman; his daughter, Rhonda (Sharp) Hanley and her husband, John D., of Maynard; his brother, John Ahlman and his wife, Lorraine, of Florida; his granddaughters, Toni, Halie and Tyler Hanley; his niece, Eileen Glover and her husband, John, of New Hampshire; and his nephew, John Ahlman and his wife, Tanya, of Holliston. He is also survived by his grandnieces and his grandnephew. A funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday morning at the Brasco and Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., Waltham, and interment with military honors will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham.
